Good Sense Antacids
I took the The Futur's 'Young Guns Pharma Package Design Challenge' : re-design a drugstore product package. I chose to re-design Good Sense Antacids.
The Futur is a graphic design based YouTube channel that I follow. They have a series called Young Guns where 5 designers under 30 years old face a series of challenges that will help them advance their careers in graphic design. Season one episode 3 is the Pharma Package Re-Design challenge. The rules were as follows:
- Find a drugstore product under $10
- Must use the original container the product is sold in
- Must keep all information that is on original package
- You can change the logo, colors, illustrations
Good Sense's original packaging highly mimics its brand name competitor, Tums. My goal was to make a package design that consumers would gravitate towards to beyond the cost savings they would receive buying generic.
My design concept was modern apothecary. Antacids have a chalk-like texture and I wanted the colors to imitate that characteristic so, I tinted them to look like chalkboard paint. I used color blocks, rules, and geometric shapes as frames to contain different types of information. I decided not to reinvent the Good Sense wordmark logo so consumers could remain familiar with the brand. Instead, I added a subtle warp arch to the text so that it sits across the edge of its color block container.
